It’s a similar story with me. Having secured my first ‘proper’ writing job with an up-and-coming tech company, I discovered I had a real knack for award writing. The kind of good where the company board room is littered with ugly trophies and the exec team has to keep their black tie get-up on rotation.

This experience was a baptism of fire, and I loved every minute. And we won. A lot. 

 

As much as I’d like to say this success was born from an altruistic urge for storytelling, in those early days, it was primarily driven by my love of boozy parties and needing no excuse to don a posh frock. But you tend to keep doing something when you’re good at it.  I learned a lot over the years working with some very talented entrepreneurs, gaining a genuine passion for helping business owners tell their stories, celebrate their achievements and achieve their goals.

 

Scarily, more than a decade has passed, and I’ve had the privilege of working for a wide range of businesses, from venture-backed start-ups to social enterprises, global corporates and everything in between. As a copywriter, I support anything that involves the written word. Think websites, social media, articles, bids, reports and marketing collateral. But my thrill for a ‘win’ has never left me, which is why I’ve nurtured this side hustle into something a bit more formal.
